Hi again...on my blog you asked how I like my D700 when compared to the D200...well there really is no comparison.

While I really enjoy my D200 and will keep it as a back up body (for my work), the D700 is a whole different animal. It is an amazing camera and it's low light performance was a deal maker for me since so much of my work involves having to shoot with low available light without the possibility to use flash. In this regard the D700 rules. ISO 6400 photos are extremely good, ISO 3200 not a problem at all, and ISO 1600 is child's play.

I was often required to shoot at ISO 1600 with the D200 and then deal with some noise in post processing. Now I can shoot without second thoughts about the quality of the images at high ISO settings.

In general the image quality with the D700 on all settings is much better than the D200. The larger sensor is nothing short of excellent. The exposures are more balanced and the colors are rendered much truer. It is a wonderful camera.

The only caveat is that DX lenses will work only as crops (6mp) and not take full advantage of the full frame sensor and higher resolution 12 mp. I only had 2 DX lenses, and they are specialty lenses, fisheye and ultra wide, so that was not a deal breaker for me. Those 2 lenses will be used on the D200 when I need them. So if you have mostly DX lenses keep that in mind and consider the D300 instead which is a really wonderful camera as well and also performs really well in low light.

I hope this info is helpful.
